Netgear R6400 vs R6700 vs R7000: Similarities

All three of these routers share some very important and positive features.

Fast speed

All three routers enjoy fast network speeds, using AC standard wireless connectivity. Speeds of up to 450 Mbps and 1300 simultaneously on 2.4GHz and 5GHz are theoretically possible. Users can game online, stream in HD, and engage in other activities that are intensive to bandwidth without experiencing breakdowns in connectivity.

Design

All three of the routers are similar in design. They all boast vent holes on the sides, are finished in black, and have a sloped design with their antennas sticking out of their backs.

Three External Antennas

All three models have 3, easily adjustable or detachable antennas.

Advanced QoS.

Advances QoS enables users of these three routers to prioritize their own bandwidth experience, ensuring that it suits them for their use with data types, devices, or with certain programs. The QoS can be set in a way so that traffic is prioritized in order to favor one aspect over others, such as favoring video calling activities over downloads or the sharing of files via email. What this means is that the activity that is prioritized will be less likely to suffer from any connectivity issues.

Beamforming

Beamforming technology is a feature of all 3 routers that enables signal strength to be increased as well as to be offered over a wider range.

Guest feature

This feature of all 3 routers allows home networks to be kept private.

Dual-core processing

All three of the routers from Netgear feature dual-core processors. With a 1GHz CPU, the routers are capable of processing different types of data, from all different devices that are connected, without the connection suffering in any way. This feature makes these 3 routers from Netgear indispensable.

Readyshare Suite

This feature that is shared by all three of the routers ensures that the sharing and backup of facilities is improved.

Airtime Fairness

This Netgear feature ensures that the home wireless network is not slowed down by devices that have been connected to the network for extended periods of time.

Netgear R6400 vs R6700 vs R7000: The Differences

So far, we have only talked about the features that these three products share. So, now we will discuss 3 important technical differences between the three models, and how they could affect your Internet usage.

R6400: Processor

The feature that makes the Netgear R6400 unique when compared to its brethren is the processor. As opposed to the 1GHxz dual-core processors found in the other two routers, the R6400 features an 800MHz processor.

What this means in very simple terms is that the R6400 processes information at a slower speed than the R7000 or the R6700.

In the amount of time needed by the R7000 or the R6700 to process 1 billion bits of data or information, the R6400 will only process 800,000,000

As the routers are dual-core, this means that in the time that the other models can process 2 billion bits of information the R6400 will process only 1.6 billion.

In simple terms, this means that if you are using your router for streaming and are taking advantage of the Beamforming+ feature, it will run slightly slower than its two counterparts.

Speed and Range of the R7000

The last difference between the three routers that is a technical difference is with the range and the speed. The R6400 and the R6700 are both listed with AC1750. The R7000 on the other hand is listed as AC1900.

The numbers found after the AC are representative of the theoretical maximum bandwidth. So, in theory, the AC1900 bandwidth of the R7000 is superior to that of the R6400 and the R6700.

USB Ports: The R6700

The most notable difference with the R6700 when compared with the other two Netgear routers is the lack of the USB 2.0 port. This is a single port that the other two routers possess, but unless you are trying to attach a non-wireless printer or other storage device, you won’t even probably notice that this feature is missing.

To be honest, this slight difference is not likely to be a deal-breaker

Netgear R6400 vs R6700 vs R7000: The Final Verdict

When we were carrying out our testing of the 3 routers from Netgear, we came to the conclusion that even though the R7000 was released before the other 2 alternatives, it is actually the leading router in terms of both connectivity and coverage. It beats the R6700 and the R6400 due to its USB ports, the beamforming tech, and the 2.4GHz internet speeds.

However, speed is theoretical when it comes to purchasing a router, and it is probably not likely you will ever reach the theoretical maximum speed. But, having said this, it is comforting that the R7000 is also favored over the other two models in reviews. The differences between the three different routers from Netgear really are very few and far between, but the overall winner for speed and coverage has to be the R7000.
