The bid is out for the 2016 Olympic Summer Games, to be announced in October 2009. With the constant progression towards everything sustainable, it’s no surprise that among the bidders, one of them is touting the most sustainable and financially-secure Games plan ever.
The 2016 Olympic Bid is between Tokyo, Chicago, Madrid, and Rio de Janeiro. It is Tokyo going with the green, with an effort to highlight the natural environment, and reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption.
The Olympic village will make use of solar and renewable energy, and post-games be converted to apartments to reduce waste. Low-emission buses and other vehicles will be used
as the primary forms of transportation other than for cyclists and walkers.
The main stadium will have a roof covered with solar panels, with plans to build all other facilities close-by.

“The Tokyo 2016 Games plan places 95% of competition venues within an 8-km radius and 70% of venues within 10 minutes of the Olympic Village. This allows the world’s finest athletes to focus on what really matters: being at their absolute peak for the world’s greatest event,” explained Yasuhiro Nakamori, Deputy Director General of Tokyo 2016.
Pre-2016, Tokyo is undergoing a green transforming, with 1000+ hectares of vegetation to be added.
