Microsoft recently announced their initiative to increase their efforts on making less of an eco-impact. They say that they will reduce their carbon emissions per unit of revenue by 30% (compared to ‘07 levels), in the upcoming three years.
According to Microsoft’s Environmental Sustainability Blog the company’s CEO Steve
Ballmer set out the goal with the expectations to achieve these figures by 2012 following a specific plan. Among their adjustments include improved energy use , both in their buildings and operations, as well as lower air travel and increase the use of renewable energy sources. In addition to this, Microsoft is working on a $1-billion expansion that includes under-floor cooling systems, and automatic sensory lights.
They will also look for new ways to reduce their use resources in their data centres, by “continuing to push the envelope on innovation”, looking at operation and design factors.
Ballmer welcomes individuals to track the progress alongside Microsoft.
