It seems like if you slap the word “organic” on anything these days, it sells. Don’t organic clothes sound better than regular clothes? Organic apples taste better than regular apples? How about those organic lipsticks, pens, and candles? We visited this topic in our article “Beware of Greenwashing and False Claims“, but I wanted to touch on it again. As a personal fitness, health and nutrition trainer, I see a lot of clients who want the quick fix. They want the magic to make it happen. Quite frequently, they simply need a combination of diet and exercise, as well as lifestyle choices (IE stress) to make this happen. We can only get so far with just one of the three.

Is organic better?

Alas, there is an organic remedy to conquer this massive three-point attack. And it’s organic. Well, thank goodness.

What you already might know is that Kirstie Alley has been battling with her weight for some time. A high-profile celebrity who has had a myriad of notable roles (IE Cheers), her weight victories and failures have been in the spotlight for some time. The press love her.

As a past Jenny Craig spokesperson, we saw even more of her on the television as her body minimized. But then – and this is quite common – it came back. And with this weight came a new tv series.organic-liason-products

The new A&E reality series is called “Kirstie Alley’s Big Life, and takes a peak inside, well, her big life. Alongside of this, she has launched her own weight loss regime. Perfect timing.

Finally… The “answer”

But this is where we get to the organic part. Her new company/support system is called Organic Liason, “a brand new, state-of-the-art weight loss program offering the best possible products, natural dietary supplements and online tools available to help you lose weight, eat right and live a healthy lifestyle.”

Sigh.

Claiming not to be a doctor or nutritionalist and just a “regular person”, she has found a reality to her weight loss search. “I can promise you”, she tells us, “our certified weight loss elixir, Rescue Me, takes on excess hunger and cravings. It will support your body and flood your body with the missing elements that make weight loss an uphill battle.”

So what makes this better than all of the rest? It’s organic, of course, as well as USDA certified and free of every chemical, hormone and pesticide you can imagine.

I’ve come to think its certified by the USDA because it’s just a combination of vitamins and minerals – ones that we can easily get from food or purchase for a minimal amount at our local health food store (most of which are organic, too).

But for the price tag? Save yourself some cash, eat some real, whole fresh foods and buy a pair of sneakers and start moving. The only thing that Organic Liason has going for it may be the community – but there are many free weight-loss, fitness and food communities around the net that you don’t have to pay a cent for.

Diet and exercise, that’s all it takes, really.
