The smell of fresh air, the sounds of nature, and the beauty that is the rockies. Since my last drop-in here on ecoki, I have shed my fossil fuel-burning-shell known as the “Greyhound bus”, and have taken to a full-time, fully sustainable cycling lifestyle.
The first week for an Otesha rider consists of training, we are located at Kamp Kiwanis just
outside of Calgary. There are 2 teams here, one is headed West and the other, ours, is headed east. We met for the first time on Tuesday. Our introductions, though, didn’t feel like introductions at all – we felt as if we have known each other for years, but I guess that’s what happens when you share such similar values and goals.
The training itinerary involves rehearsal of the play, building our group dynamic/relationships, tuning decision making skills, planning our tour, and, of course, lots and lots of eating.
As mentioned before, the way we “clicked” continues to ring through; making decisions together that normally would be difficult are done with ease. To live in a close knit group/family such as this can be very difficult, but with the light at the end of the tunnel glowing with cleaner air, organic food, social equality, and an all around much more positive attitude towards life, everything seems easier.
As I have limited computer access I don’t have as much time to write this, but felt necessary to let you all know how I am feeling after this week of sharing, learning experiences.
The tour will begin this Friday as we head into Calgary but our first performance is at Kamp Kiwanis this Thursday. Thank you for you comments and hope to continue hearing from you all. Stay tuned for my next update!

Jash wash!
Since this is the only article I haven;t commented on, I figure I would leave a comment here. (And just a short n sweet one cuz I have to sleep so I can babysit a toddler in the am- which I guess this is the am but not really as have yet to shut my eyes- at least that’s how I think of it!). Anywho, I’m getting facebook. I hope you can deal with that. I can’t resist any longer! I’ve cracked AGAIN! I’ll be smarter about it this time, don’t you worry! But I can’t resist it any longer! Curse it for being one of the most (or perhaps thee most) popular social networking websites! Oh, the injustice! Anways, get over it quick and call me when you get a chance! Miss your voice! And something dreadful happened to Princess but she’s safe and sound now so don’t worry!
P.S. I met Dan this past Saturday. He’s wonderful!
P.P.S. What’s that part that I need for Cheri (the roadbike that I still must pick up) and the name of the guy to speak to again- I need to write it down or I forget?
P.P.S. I told my whole family I was going to meet you on the west coast when I’m done teaching.
P.P.P.S. My family thinks I’m crazy.
P.P.P.P.S. Why they think I’m crazy may have something to with the fact that I told them I proposed to you on my birthday and want to get married at city hall in Vancouver on International Talk Like a Pirate Day…
Hope you’re well!
