Green changes are cropping up everywhere, and theme parks are no exception. And with summer here, we start to plan our day trips and getaways to our favourite destinations… and the more eco-friendly, the better.
Six Flags, a popular chain of theme parks across the US, have gone green with one of their long-standing attractions.
The Big Wheel received a renovation at Six Flags Great Adventure, a park hailing in New Jersey. The 15-story attraction, which has been around since 1974, celebrated its 35th
anniversary with an eco-friendly facelift.
The refurbished ride now features 7,924 energy-saving LED bulbs, with a new pain job and an animated light display. The new bulbs will reduce approximately 8.5 million pounds of carbon emission, equivalent to removing 72 vehicles from the road or planting 2,850 trees.
President Mark Kane notes the importance “to restore it to its original historic beauty while at the same time improving its impact on our environment.”
